Some of the biggest heroes during the week of Cycle Oregon are our beloved SAG drivers (SAG:Support and Gear). These rescue vehicles are operated by friendly and furry friends on a mission to bring laughter, cheer and a helping hand for those in need along the route. They have been known to release bubbles into the air while slowly passing as if to remind us to keep our efforts in the fun zone (even when the road ascends painfully uphill).
Blaring music from their sound systems distract and entertain. They pick up weary riders and broken bikes, escorting both to the nearest mechanic, top of the hill or back to camp. They are absolute heroes to anyone who has received their services and I speak from personal experience.
Be sure to give a shout out to this wonderful and friendly team, many of whom return year after year to serve heaping doses of help and happiness.
I spotted the fleet of SAGs as drivers were equipping their vehicles to look after us this week. Here is a brief video clip.
